“NICO” es un cortometraje que cuenta la historia de un personaje muy particular que ve afectada la relación con sus amigos a causa del cigarrillo. NICO fue realizado por HGRproducciones con la colaboración de la Dirección de Cultura de la Universidad Centroccidental Lisandro Alvarado (Venezuela), a través del Taller Integral de Formación Teatral y la Coordinación de Cine Clubes de la UCLA.

Diego Mauricio Alvarez is a young Colombian filmmaker. His first work “Monky Head” (2001) was nominated to the 23 Havana Film Festival (2001), 2002 OFFF Fest in Spain and 2003 Bitfilm Festival (Germany). “Monky Head” won several festivals in colombia like Equinoxio (Universidad Nacional de Colombia), Sin Formato (Ministerio de la Cultura) and The International Macromedia user Group Prize. His next work “Love is a Bullet in the Heart” (2002) was finalist in 2002 Notodofilmfest (Spain), Juries: Alejandro Amenabar and Bigas Luna. Nominated to 7th Seul International Cartoon and Animation Festival, Stuttgart 2004 (Germany), 2003 Bitfilm Festival (Germany) and 13 Philadelphia Film Festival. “Wendidali” (2003) was nominated to 2003 Sundance Film Festival (USA), Animamundi 2003 (Brazil), 2003 OFFF Fest (Spain), 25 Havana Film Festival and was special screened at Notodofilmfest 2004. In 2004 all his films were special screened at XVI Rencontres Cinemas d’Amrique Latine de Toulouse France. In 2005 Diego Mauricio Alvarez made his first music video: Relax Yourself. “Relax Yourself” was Official Selection at Annecy 2006 (France), 2005 Bitfilm Festival (Germany), 2005 Montreal Short Film Festival and VAD 2005 in Spain. “Elevated Sex” (2007), his third music video, was Special Screened at 2007 HD Fest (USA), 2007 April Number one in Wimstream (Russia) and nominated to 2007 Bitfilm Festival (Germany). In 2006, Diego Mauricio Alvarez was one of the selected to the prestigious Berlinale Talent Campus (Germany). Diego Mauricio Alvarez works are distributed in Canada by the company: Silence at Court and in USA by Pawky LLC and the famous AtomFilms. His brother Carlos Alvarez is the co-producer, 3D artist and assistant director of all his works. “The Last Fight of the Man” (2007) is his last work until now.
